MESMERE: News

Mesemere - What's in a name? - 17 April 2006

Brisbane’s finest executors of fuzzed up prog jazz rock Mosaic, have this week announced that effective immediately, they have officially changed their name to “MESMERE”. Having completed two east coast tours over the last two months and now on the verge of releasing their first full length album and signing international publishing and distribution deals, the members of the band formally known as Mosaic began asking the big question; is Mosaic still who we really are? The answer it would seem, is no. Front-woman Maryanne Stewart explains:

"It was a very hard decision to make, there's always so much history with a band name, but with the evolving musical direction of the new album, I think it's the right decision, There are so many other bands and other projects all over the world using the name Mosaic, and I think Mesmere evokes the emotion of our sound perfectly."

Mesmere (pronounced Mez-meer) comes from the word mesmerise, a state of play the band strives to capture through soaring vocals, powerful choruses and extreme dynamics.

Mesmerise (v):

to attract strongly, as if with a magnet;

To induce hypnosis - a state of heightened awareness and focused concentration that can be used to manipulate perception.

Mesmere launch their new single ‘Keepsakes’ Thu April 27th from 8pm @ the Zoo w’ Glasshouse and Bobby Flynn, followed up by a performance at the Caxton St Festival: 3pm, Sun April 30th on the Petrie Tce Stage. Stay tuned for single release details and further information…..

Meridien Musik, Daniel Jones and "Overlong Welcome" - 4 December 2005

We’ve just spent a blissful week recording the final track ‘Keepsakes’ from our upcoming album at Meridien Musik Studio. ‘Keepsakes’ was produced, recorded and mixed by Daniel Jones. Meridien Musik is an exclusive recording studio, owned and operated by Daniel Jones, whose album sales exceeded 20 million copies world wide with Savage Garden.
With the final three songs to be mixed at Meridien very soon, early 2006 will see the release of the magnum opus that is “An Overlong Welcome”. Look out for the album – it will be available online in January and in stores soon after!

And after that… We will be hitting the road touring nationally throughout the year.

For your last ‘fix’ of MOSAIC in 2005, make sure you come along to The Shamrock Hotel (recently painted red, in case you don’t recognise it) on the corner of Brunswick St and St Pauls Tce in Fortitude Valley on Friday 16th December, and have a couple of Christmas beers with us…

Sunday November 27th, 7pm at ‘The Rev’ - 15 November 2005

2005 has been a big year for two of Brisbane’s most exciting bands. Art-rockers Mosaic are currently mixing the final songs from their debut long player ‘An Overlong Welcome’. The album is due for launch in early 2006 and promises to be an epic journey of fragile and awesome beauty. Power-rockers Transic have just completed their debut EP ‘The Spiral’, recorded and mixed at Rockinghorse Studios, and are more than ready to step forward and unveil their work. Both bands will be showcasing songs from these recordings, highlighted by the striking visual mixing of RedTape Pictures.

Transic launch ‘The Spiral’ EP Sunday 27th November at The Rev. Early 2006 will see the release of Mosaic’s ‘An Overlong Welcome’ and a national tour to support.

Joining Mosaic and Transic at The Rev are The Black Stars (Byron Bay) and The Deathcauture. Tickets are $5 at the door with a free BBQ from 5.30pm.

We have been very busy over the past few months recording our debut full length album. Rhythm sections were tracked at the beautiful Rockinghorse Studios in the mountains near Byron Bay. We've been laying down vocals and extra tracks at a few studios around Brisbane, including Grevillea Studios in Albion. The album is coming along really well and we're very excited about how it is sounding so far. Hopefully we can look at finishing it in around a month. Stay tuned for more album news...
